The Aurora Highlands community experienced a great boom with the arrival of the electric railway to the capital area. As the ease of commuting to the capital grew, so did the demand for bedroom neighborhoods. Young professionals and families flocked to Aurora Highlands, causing massive growth in this Arlington-area community.

This extremely walkable area boasts a strong sense of community. The Aurora Hills Library has great children’s programs, community events, and a maker space lab. And the Aurora Highlands Civic Association helps to advocate, operate, and maintain a series of parks and community spaces throughout the neighborhood. The association also hosts several community events throughout the year. 
 
The nearby Pentagon Row and National Landing are mixed-use complexes for living, shopping, dining, and recreation. These vibrant developments provide access to plenty of upscale amenities and often hold community events throughout the year.

The Freshman is an ultra-modern spot in the heart of Aurora Highlands. This eatery is open from morning until night, serving everything from freshly roasted coffee and avocado toast to craft cocktails and bistro mussels. The interior space at The Freshman is hip and bright, with lots of colors and natural light. 
 
Aurora Highlands locals love Crystal City Sports Pub for its delectable modern tavern fare and energetic atmosphere. This is a great spot for happy hour, a weekend dinner, or to watch a game on one of the many screens. Crystal City Sports Pub also hosts weekly poker and comedy nights. 
 
Freddie’s Beach Bar and Restaurant is an inclusive, welcoming tiki-themed eatery with a menu of starters and mains with a tropical vibe. Freddie’s holds special events throughout the week, like trivia, bingo, and karaoke. 
 
Open around the clock, Kabob Place serves authentic Middle Eastern fare like kabobs, keema, and curry. This longtime Aurora Highlands spot has a decidedly welcoming vibe and a relaxed atmosphere. 
 

Things to Do

 
The FreshFarm National Landing Farmers Market is a seasonal market boasting farm-fresh produce, eggs, and meat. Each Saturday, this local market brings together area farmers and food vendors to give Aurora Highlands residents access to the freshest food and goods. 
 
Showcasing unique physical theater performances, Synetic Theater showcases inventive renditions of favorites like Beauty and the Beast and the Taming of the Shrew. These shows combine stage effects, puppetry, movement, and set design to create an innovative theater experience. 
 
Pentagon Row is an expansive shopping, dining, and recreation complex near Aurora Highlands. Each winter, the largest outdoor rink in Northern Virginia opens at the Pentagon Row Outdoor Ice Skating rink. In the summer, this outdoor multi-use complex hosts a community concert series on its lawn.
 
Virginia Highlands Park is a mixed-use facility in Aurora Highlands with a variety of fields and courts for baseball, basketball, tennis, lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball. This park also features picnic areas, a children’s playground, and a spray ground.
